Hello Hello, Lil Buns!
How has everyone been! I know it's been a while since I last blogged. XD I've actually been pretty busy even on my days off!
I forgot to tell you that last Saturday, I actually got to attend the Distant Worlds Final Fantasy concert for its 10th year! I can't believe it's already been running that long Dx With the same group, we also saw them in their first year. So it was nice to see how far its come.
I even dressed up as one of my favorite characters from the games! It was too cold for her original outfit so I made up my own himekaji style Serah. I was pretty happy with my look. Of course by the end of the night, the wig came off so I was back to normal XD
Anyway...
Today, I'm going to talk about two new anime series that I had been dying to watch!
When it was announced that CCS was going to get more than just an OVA but a whole series, I died. My long time otaku heart nearly exploded. I can proudly say I have watched everything including all the specials up to this point. As I said for one of my anime challenge posts, it's definitely one of those series that I could watch over and over again without getting tired of it.
Fourteen-year-old Sakura starts junior high school along her friends, including Syaoran, who had just returned to Tomoeda. After having a dream with a mysterious cloaked figure, all of Sakura's cards turn blank and are rendered powerless, thus she starts her quest to find out what is wrong. In doing so, Sakura and her allies discover and capture new transparent cards using a new key.
So it's only a few years after the movie and OVA officially ended the series. I think CLAMP realized that after Tsubasa, CCS fans were more in love with the younger and happier Sakura. At least I am. Plus it's a nice way to pay homage to such a loved series that many of us grew up with.
In the first episode, we see that much hasn't changed with Sakura. She still fights with Touya, still nearly late for school and is still best friends with Tomoyo. Only now, the school uniform is different and she no longer wears her trademark twin-tails.
She starts having dreams again about the cards which have suddenly become clear. But Eriol is back in England so Sakura has no idea what's going on. She turns to Kero, Yue and Syaoran (and it looks like they're finally officially a couple!!!) who has returned permanently but not even they have a clue.
Suddenly, a new card attacks and Sakura births a new key. It seems our little cardcaptor is back in business with a power upgrade. But she still has yet to find out who this new mysterious figure is and why the cards are blank.
In the second episode, it's like the previous series and we get to see a little bit of their school life. Tomoyo of course wants to make more costumes for Sakura and film her at every possible chance.
We finally see Eriol and Co. where Ruby wants to go back to Japan. But Eriol being such a Clow, says the time isn't right.
The group of friends are back together at school, though, minus Rika who ended up at another school. Tomoyo is sleeping over at Sakura's house that night and they want to make one of Chiharu's desserts. Touya also has Yukito staying over so you can imagine the comedic scene of him eyeing Kero who is trying so desperately hard to act like a doll. Even with the mention of food. xD
Later that night, while trying on one of Tomoyo's newest costumes, another card is activated. They are able to figure it out and return it back to its true form.
After watching these two episodes, I felt like the original CCS series never ended. I've seen a few reviews where it's been basically divided in half of people that love it and people that were not happy. I guess now that more people are learning to be more judgmental about series when doing reviews, they don't view it as a piece of nostalgia and are happy with just that. Myself, on the other hand, am actually happy with it so far. Yes, some of it may be nostalgia but it feels right to me and this is exactly how I think Sakura and her friends would grow up. A lot of movies and series have been so dark and the total opposite of their predecessors. So it's nice to see one series that continues how it's always been from the beginning. I actually cannot wait for the next episode!
This next series is one I wouldn't normally watch. I have nothing against shonen-ai or shoujo-ai but they're usually not my cup of tea. However, one of the main characters is a gyaru! And from what I've seen, the original manga was pretty popular.
Quick Synopsis (from My Anime List)
Fashionable Yuzu imagined the first day at her new school she transferred to after her mother's remarriage a bit differently; she didn't know it'd be an ultra-strict and conservative girls' school. So instead of a sweet high-school romance, she butts heads with the stern student council president Mei—who turns out to be her new stepsister. And she has to learn that hate and attraction are often not that far apart.
In the first episode, we are introduced to the super cute gyaru Yuzu. Her mom has just remarried and they moved to a new town and she's going to a new school. And being gyaru, she made all the necessary adjustments to her uniform just as it always has been for her. But she totally gets a rude awakening on her first day.
She's immediately targeted as the school is very strict and the student council president tells her everything that's wrong with what she's doing and take her phone away. They let her off with just a warning or else she'll get suspended. Later on, she makes friends with another girl who is actually a gal outside of school. She also happens to still have her phone because of her special hiding spot xD
Yuzu accidentally finds the president Mei making out with a teacher and runs away. She's really freaked out by it. What freaks her out even more is when she returns home to find out that she now has a sister who just happens to also be Mei.
Yuzu decides to act like a real sister and bug her. But the tables are turned when Mei just pounces on her and steals her first kiss! She was so not prepared for that! (Not even me who was just watching Dx )
I will admit I became interested in this series because of Yuzu. She's just so adorable and she's a gyaru. And if you remember from my series on gyaru in anime, I have been on a hunt looking for more series without running into hentai or making her to be a loose bad girl. So far it's pretty intriguing and looks like it's a shoujo series with good drama. I'm hoping that it will keep what made the manga so popular. There's not much I can say just yet as I will give the minimum 3 episodes to decide if I should keep watching or not.
So what do you think about doing anime recaps like this? I'll still continue on with getting through my older series on My Anime List and doing full series reviews. But I thought about giving a weekly recap as well for newer series as they air. Let me know in the comments!
That's all for now! See you next time!
