Anime Watch: Himouto! Umaru-chan

Hello Hello, Lil Buns!

Today's post will be:

ANIME WATCH
Himouto! Umaru-chan

Today we're checking off another series on My Anime List. This time it's Himouto! Umaru-chan (干物妹!うまるちゃん) aka My Two-Faced Little Sister.

Love the JUMP! and One Piece references xD
Synopsis:
Himouto! Umaru-chan is a slice of life story about Umaru and her older brother Taihei. He works full time in a office job and she's a high schooler. Outside of their home, she's the perfect girl that's beautiful, smart and kind. But when she gets home, she's a completely different person. She's completely into anime, video games, junk food and being lazy.

Rating Summary

Plot/Story 7/10
The story itself is kind of simple. It's their everyday life as brother and sister. They get along, fight and just try to take everything day by day. The outside world sees her as the perfect girl but only her brother knows the truth. Nothing really changes except you see more people accept her for who she is. This made me think of how I tend to be sometimes. Especially at a job where I don't think my coworkers have the same interests as I do. So I keep it hidden like Umaru-chan does. But sometimes you get lucky and you'll make friends just like you.

Animation/Design 8/10
Slice of life series tend to be very pretty and show gorgeous scenery of Japan. Of course there are artistic licenses taken and not all of the locations are real or exact but that doesn't make it any less beautiful. But I always find the characters to be less detailed than their scenes. They are still easy on the eyes but they can be kind of simplistic.

Heck, even the desserts of the 11th episode look amazing!

Characters 9/10
As a 12-episode series, I think it had the right amount of characters. Unlike Sonico (see my review on that one here), it didn't try to cram in hundreds of characters which only really existed as plot devices. I will admit, there were moments where I just didn't understand how Taihei was so patient. Being an older sister myself, there are some things I could not tolerate. But I guess things are different when parents aren't around.

As for her friends - Ebina, Kirie and Sylphinford, I would have loved to learn more about them. We only got to know bits and pieces and we didn't see more of them until the last couple of episodes.

Sylphinford (what a name XD ) is really cute and reminds me of a PreCure character!

Audio/Soundtrack 8/10
The music really didn't have anything spectacular and it was mostly instrumental but it fit the series. The only vocal pieces were the OP "Kakushinteki☆Metamaruphose! (かくしん的☆めたまるふぉ~ぜっ!)" and the ED "Hidamari Days (ひだまりデイズ)" which were actually performed by the girls of the series! I am not a fan of the opening theme as it's more irritating and really fits in with Umaru-chan's at home self. The ending is sweeter and goes with Umaru and how she is with the other girls.

Overall Rating 8/10
I'm actually a big fan of these kinds of series. My #1 will always be Azumanga Daioh! But despite me getting annoyed with the main character, it was pretty good and I actually enjoyed it. For some reason, I like to watch slice of life series during the summer. It's kind of relaxing when it's too hot to do much... So if you want a light-hearted (kinda pointless but funny) series to easily binge on, Himouto! Umaru-chan is a good choice.

I also hear that it will be getting a second season starting in October! I wonder what it will be about!

Why yes, Sylphinford, yes it is.

She really is two-faced!

Hope you enjoyed! Please let me know your opinions in the comments if you watched it!

Also!
Since I've started doing more anime and manga reviews, should I continue to write them on here or should I look into making a separate blog for that? Let me know in the comments about that too!

That's all for now! See you next time!
